Disaster Preparedness During an Earthquake
Helping young children understand how to protect their bodies during an earthquake and act safely together with adults
💬 What Is an Earthquake?
An earthquake is when the ground shakes and wobbles. Things inside your home or kindergarten may shake too. Even if you are surprised, it is important not to panic.
🤔 What kinds of things do you think shake during an earthquake?
💬 If It Shakes, Protect Your Head
If everything starts shaking, protect your head first. If there is a desk nearby, get under the desk. If there is no desk, protect your head with a bag or your hands.
🤔 Where in the room can you protect your head?
💬 Do Not Run While It Is Shaking
If you run while it is shaking, you might fall. Move a little away from windows and shelves. Listen to the adult’s voice and wait calmly.
💬 When the Shaking Stops, Act Together with an Adult
Even after the shaking stops, do not move around by yourself. Go to a safe place together with your teacher or family. It is reassuring to prepare an emergency bag and water.
🤔 What is inside your emergency bag at home?
