When autumn comes, Squirrel gathers lots and lots of acorns. Why do you think that is? It is so Squirrel can eat them during the cold winter. Squirrel thinks, “I’ll eat these later!” and carefully carries the acorns away.

🤔 Why do you think Squirrel is gathering acorns?

Squirrel hides the acorns one by one in the soil. Here and there, Squirrel hides them little by little. It is almost like putting tiny treasures away in the forest. But Squirrel hides so many acorns that it is hard to remember every place.

🤔 If you hid this many acorns, do you think you could remember where they all were?

When winter comes, Squirrel looks for the acorns it hid. But then... “Hmm? Where did I hide them?” Squirrel forgets many of the places where the acorns were hidden. For example, if Squirrel hides 10 acorns, it might forget about 7 of them.

🤔 What do you think will happen next to the acorns Squirrel forgot?

The acorns Squirrel forgot are sleeping in the soil. When spring comes, up they pop! A tiny sprout grows from an acorn. That sprout grows little by little and becomes a tree. So Squirrel is planting trees in the forest without even knowing it. Squirrel’s forgotten treasures are helping the forest grow bigger.
