The One Red Balloon
Learning that everyone can play happily by taking turns, waiting a little, and sharing with each other
💬 We Found a Red Balloon!
At kindergarten, there was just one red balloon. Rabbit said, “Wow! I want to play with it first!” Bear said too, “Me too! Me too! I want to play with it first!” Both of them wanted to play with the red balloon.
🤔 There is only one balloon. It looks like both Rabbit and Bear want to play with it. What should they do?
💬 Fighting Over It Feels Sad
Rabbit and Bear held the balloon string tightly. “I’m first!” “I’m first too!” They started pulling back and forth, and both of their faces became sad. Oh no! They wanted to play happily, but now they felt sad.
🤔 When they pulled on the balloon, how do you think Rabbit and Bear felt?
💬 Let’s Think Together with the Teacher
The teacher said gently, “What can we do so both of you can have fun?” Rabbit and Bear thought hard. Rabbit said, “Then let’s take turns.” Bear said too, “Good idea. While I’m waiting, I’ll cheer for you.”
🤔 What does “taking turns” mean? It means one person plays first, and the other person plays later.
💬 Taking Turns Makes Us Smile
First, it is Rabbit’s turn. Bear waited just a little. “Rabbit, you look like you’re having fun!” Next, it is Bear’s turn. Rabbit waited with a smile too. When they waited a little and shared, both of them could play happily. When we take turns, everyone’s heart feels warm and happy.
🤔 While you are waiting, what can you do to wait happily? Cheer? Count numbers? Play with another toy?
