The Giant Turnip

The old man planted a turnip seed in the field. "Grow into a sweet, sweet turnip. Grow into a big, big turnip." Every day, the old man gave it water. Then the turnip grew and grew, bigger and bigger.

🤔 What does a tiny seed need to grow big? Water? Sunshine?

The turnip grew very, very big. The old man tried to pull out the turnip. "Heave-ho, heave-ho!" But the turnip would not come out.

🤔 It looks like the old man can’t pull it out by himself. What do you think he should do?

The old man called the old woman. The old woman called the grandchild. The grandchild called the dog. The dog called the cat. Everyone joined together and pulled. "Heave-ho, heave-ho!" But still, the turnip would not come out.

🤔 Everyone is working together. Who should they call next?

The cat called the tiny mouse. The mouse pulled together with everyone. Everyone shouted, "Heave-ho, heave-ho!" Then... pop! At last, the giant turnip came out. The tiny mouse’s strength, and everyone’s strength, were all very important.
