Free printable Parenting Diary
A parenting memory that looks back, with both confusion and affection, on the days when a parent wanted just a little time alone, while their child did not want to be apart and followed them all the way to the toilet
💬 I Just Wanted to Be Apart for a Moment
That day, from the morning on, it was carry me, carry me, carry me. The nap was short too, and I found myself wanting just a little time alone. When my child started playing in the living room, I quietly headed to the toilet. But somehow, children have an incredibly sharp ability to notice when a parent moves.
🤔 Have you ever tried to quietly get something done while your child was playing, only for it to fail?
💬 Crying Hard on the Other Side of the Door
The moment I closed the door, I heard tiny footsteps from the hallway. The next moment, a loud cry: 'Waaah!' From inside the toilet, I kept calling out, 'I'm right here,' and 'I'll be out soon.' Even though it was just one door, to my child it may have felt as if I had gone to the edge of the world.
💬 In the End, I Opened It Just a Little
I gave in to the crying and opened the door just a little. Then my child sat down flat on the floor, still holding back tears. And for some reason, they offered me their favorite toy. When I thought, 'So you plan to be with me even here,' I laughed a little, even though I had been feeling so troubled.
🤔 Have you ever had a moment when, even though things were hard, your child's actions were so cute that you ended up laughing?
💬 A Door That Will Close Someday
When I came out of the toilet, my child immediately hugged me. While thinking, 'Come on, at least let me go to the toilet alone,' I stroked that small back. The phase of following a parent around can be so hard that some days feel suffocating. But someday, even if I call, my child may no longer come running. When I think of that, even those cries in front of the toilet became one of our family memories.
