Free printable Parenting Diary
A memory of the day when, in the middle of ordinary daily life, a child called their parent “Mama” for the first time, and the parent felt both bewildered and aware of their child’s growth
💬 A Hectic Morning, Just Like Any Other
That day was not a special morning. The laundry was half-folded, crumbs from breakfast bread had fallen onto the floor, and we were a little sleep-deprived, as usual. Our child sat on the floor, clutching a toy and making sounds like “aa” and “maa.” Lately, they had started babbling more often, but it still seemed less like words and more like they were enjoying the sounds.
🤔 When did you start consciously waiting for your child’s first word?
💬 What Did You Just Say?
At that moment, our child reached their hand toward me and said it in a voice I could clearly hear. “Mama” For an instant, it felt like every sound in the room had stopped. Maybe I had misheard. Maybe it was just a coincidence. Even as I thought that, something deep in my chest grew suddenly warm.
🤔 Have you ever heard something your child said and immediately wanted to ask someone, “Did you hear that?”
💬 Parents Waiting Too Hard for One More Time
From that moment on, we suddenly became restless. “Will they say it again?” “Can we get it on video?” we wondered, holding up a smartphone and waiting. But when we started expecting it, our child suddenly acted like nothing had happened. As if that moving moment had been a dream, they went back to licking blocks and getting absorbed in a baby rice cracker.
🤔 Have you ever tried to capture a cute moment with your child, only for them to suddenly stop?
💬 An Ordinary Day Became Unforgettable
In the end, they did not call me that over and over again that day. Maybe they still did not fully understand what it meant. Even so, when night came and I looked at their sleeping face, I wanted to keep a record of this day. In the middle of an ordinary day, one more moment I never wanted to forget had been added.
