Traffic Lights
Young children understand that they should look at the traffic light colors to stop, wait, and check for safety before going
Traffic lights are signals that help us move safely on the road. When the color changes, we know whether we may go or should stop. When we cross at a crosswalk, we look at the traffic light.
💬 What Are Traffic Lights?
🤔 Have you ever seen a traffic light where people cross the road?
Red is the signal to stop. When it is red, we do not cross the crosswalk. We wait carefully before the road.
💬 Red Means Stop
🤔 When the light is red, where should your feet stop?
Green is the signal that you may cross. But we do not run right away. We look right and left, check that it is safe, and then cross.
💬 Green Means Look Carefully and Cross
🤔 Before you cross, where should you look to stay safe?
When the green light starts flashing, it will soon turn red. If you have not started crossing yet, wait. Do not rush. Wait for the next green light.
💬 When It Starts Flashing, Wait
🤔 If the light is flashing, should you run across, or should you wait?
