Hina-chan is still only two years old. When water comes out of the faucet, she stares at it and smiles. Splash-splash, trickle-trickle, drip-drop. To Hina-chan, the sound of the water seems like fun music.

When the water touches her hand, it feels cool. It slips smoothly over her hand. Even if she tries to grab it, it slides away. Hina-chan might be thinking, “Huh? I can’t hold it! How strange!”

🤔 Can you squeeze water tightly in your hand? What happens when you try to grab it?
Hina-chan is at an age when she wants to try doing more and more things by herself. When she touches the faucet, water comes out. When she turns it off, the water stops. “When I did something, the water moved!” That makes her very happy.

🤔 Just like when you press a switch and the light turns on, are there things that make you happy when you can make them move by yourself?
For Hina-chan, faucet water is something mysterious and fun: it makes sounds, sparkles, can be touched, and can be moved by herself. But water is very important. When we play with it, we should use just a little, together with an adult. When we are finished, let’s turn the faucet off tightly.
