There Are 8 Billion People on Earth

Lots of people live on Earth. If we counted everyone, there would be about 8 billion people. 8 billion is a very, very big number. It is much, much more than the friends at kindergarten, and much more than all the people in your town.

In some countries, the number of people who live there is growing little by little. For example, in a country called India, there are many children and young people. When many babies are born, the number of people living in that country grows little by little. Parks and schools become lively too.

On the other hand, there are also countries where the number of people is slowly decreasing. Japan is one of them. When fewer babies are born, the number of children may slowly become smaller too. But having many grandpas and grandmas living long, healthy lives is also one of the wonderful things about Japan.

Some countries have more people, and some countries have fewer people. Having more people or fewer people does not make one better than the other. What matters is that everyone can eat food, sleep safely, and learn happily. It would be wonderful if everyone on Earth could live together in harmony.
